LOVE AND LIFE
A Christian Sexual Morality Guide For Teens |
| LOVE AND LIFE is a positive, life-affirming presentation of God's plan for life and love. It shows how we learn to live and love within the Church according to God's two greatest commandments and the beatitudes, which are nurtured in us through our lives in Jesus Christ and which are revealed to us through the love and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
LOVE AND LIFE uses: |
* Sacred Scripture
* The Documents of Vatican II
* The Writings and Lives of Saints and Contemporaries
* Poems, Letters and Slogans Created by Teens for Teens
* A Lively, Down-to-Earth Commentary
|
| The program has been carefully designed and developed over five years of practical use with teens. It communicates on their terms, but with a level of challenge that both motivates and rewards them for good effort. It works on a step-by-step progression that involves teens, parents and teachers in interactive exercises, discussions, creative writing and role playing.
LOVE AND LIFE focuses on the true meaning of Christian Family Living. It is through the family that we first experience God's love for us. And it is the family that provides the context for understanding sexual maturity as a life-giving and life-supportive gift from God that respects ALL life and which gives us special powers in God's plan for creation.
The Sacraments, the liturgy, our prayers, devotions, sacrifices and faithfulness to the commandments, together with the practice of our love for God and neighbor, are presented as the spiritual resources that we need to know, love and serve God as mature, responsible Christians.

Mrs. Frances Fortier
Director, Joliet Diocesan Life Office member, Catholic Conference of Illinois
"This program, which as been approved by our Illinois Catholic Conference, has been long-awaited and welcomed by teens and parents alike in our diocese. Mrs. Coleen Mast and her students have proved that chastity is a vital dimension of sexuality education. We are proud to share this program with others."

Rev. Charles V. Fenelli
Past Director, Chicago Archdiocese Pro-Life Office member, Catholic Conference of Illinois
"I have seen this program at work-- motivating teens to value their sexuality and to respect the Church's authentic teaching-- all done with humor and creativity. I am happy to recommend LOVE AND LIFE to all who are looking for a way to teach chastity according to the Vatican's "Educational Guidance in Human Love" and help teens enjoy their adolescence following God's way of purity."

WOULDN'T YOU CALL THIS EXPLOITATION?
If you are younger than twenty, as long as you have lived you have been hearing TV, radio, books, songs and magazines proclaim that sex is the center of the universe!
PUT YOURSELF IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT
Many of you can hardly wait until you can get your driver's license and drive. But suppose that just before your sixteenth birthday, cars and driving were outlawed. Someone persuaded Congress that driving was too dangerous, that drivers sometimes lose control, lives are lost, people drink and drive, some drive without a license, that cars burn too much fuel, and so on. So it's out. No more cars. No more driving.
"But wait," you argue. "Cars are necessary! People have to drive to work, to hospitals, to the grocery store! C'mon! Most people on the road have their licenses, they stay within the speed limit and follow the rules. Most people can keep their cars under control."
How are sexual relations like driving? You need a license for both!
You are right, of course. Cars can hardly be banned as long as people can keep them "under control." Like driving a car and abiding by the rules, the sex drive also needs controls. It is powerful and can be life-supportive or life-destructive. The brand of sexuality advertised in our culture today is way out of bounds with what is intended by God as natural and "under control." Since it is out of control, the effects are life-destructive, just like the effects of a driver out of control.
